UNIQUE BLEND OF WELLNESS, SELF-CARE, AND FASHION: The only "Joy of Dressing" book there is: no other book merges fashion, wellness, and self-care. In a time when many of us are at home or beginning to venture back out professionally or socially, this book will help take away the stress and anxiety around dressing. It is also a refreshing take on self-care that can easily be added to morning routines.
A PROVEN PROGRAM: The AB Closet Editing System and Three Word Method are simple ways to organize your closet and your mind that Bornstein has successfully used with hundreds of clients.
A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO BODY POSITIVITY: Wear It Well discusses how to combat and banish the voices of shame that permeate fashion culture and our own heads when we buy clothing. This will appeal to readers passionate about body positivity, and fans of The Body Is Not An Apology, Body Talk, and More Than A Body.
PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE FASHION: Bornstein's program is based on shopping our closets rather than going out to buy an all-new wardrobe. She demonstrates how to choose ten versatile pieces to mix and match within our wardrobe. She also encourages readers to donate "never going to wear" clothes and to dress intentionally.

There are many guides to getting dressed, a number born during and after the pandemic. But none will equal or surpass Bornstein's joyful approach featuring her ""Three-Word Method"" and ""AB Closet-Editing System."" Playing both fashion stylist and psychologist, she mind reads most of our thoughts and emotions about clothing and dressing, silencing devils-on-shoulders like, "I hate my closet,"" "nothing fits me," and "am I too old for this?" with kindness and resolve. Some might argue with her nine universal pieces (no dress or skirt included!), yet all the resulting variations and ideas make a lot of emotional and practical sense. Sidebars are almost as informative as the main text: shopping for denim (why not online? Then take your time); accessorize with love--the right socks or wrong shoes can make a big difference; when there's nothing to wear, repeat yesterday's look with one small shift. Her attitude is contagious and priceless: "I propose we make every day special. Wear it just because you like it, because it makes you feel good. Life is too short!" Bravo!

Stylist and wardrobe consultant Bornstein wants to give readers the tools they need to tackle their closets, transform their personal style, and become more confident in the clothing choices they make every day. She argues here that classic pieces needn't be boring and that having fewer choices in the closet can, in fact, produce greater sartorial self-expression by minimizing chaos and ensuring people have only clothes they feel good wearing. Both her "Three Word Method" and "AB Closet Editing System" offer brilliant strategies for eliminating wardrobe clutter and creating a sense of joy and calm, something she found lacking in her own relationship with fashion during the height of the COVID pandemic. The book encourages introspection: it's not until readers acknowledge who they want to be and how they want to show up in the world that they can begin to let go of fashion pieces that haphazardly fill their closets. Once they do that, they can curate a wardrobe that works. One flaw is that the book lacks a checklist or action steps that readers can use to work through the system as they read. VERDICT A thoughtful approach to showing readers how to tackle their closets, lean into their personal values, and let go of some of their concerns about style.--Emily Bowles
