PD’s archive • I’m sure most readers prefer to see pictures of older lorries and British ones in particular. Those much-revered bygone makes like AEC, Leyland, Scammell and Guy bring back happy memories of haulage in the 1960s and 1970s. Okay, they can still be seen at rallies, but period shots allow us to see what they were like in real life. The liveries and the backgrounds all help to re-live the past.

SWEDISH STYLE • By the time this F10 bulk powder tanker entered service with North Yorkshire haulier Young’s (Stokesley) Ltd in 1978, Volvo had become firmly rooted in the UK. Without question the Swedish company added new style to the British haulage scene and most drivers welcomed the high standard of comfort and ease of driving that Volvos provided.
